About the Role
We are seeking an R&D Tax Senior Manager to join a growing Midlands & South West team specialising in Innovation Taxes. This is a senior role with responsibility for leading R&D tax relief claims, managing client relationships, and developing the team. The role combines technical expertise, leadership, and business development opportunities across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Line manage and develop members of the R&D team, supporting career progression and skill development.
- Lead client meetings on R&D tax relief, building strong relationships with managing directors, CFOs, CTOs, and other key stakeholders.
- Identify qualifying R&D projects and expenditure through participation in technical and financial discussions with clients.
- Prepare and review technical and financial assessments, R&D claim calculations, and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with relevant tax legislation.
- Liaise with internal and external tax teams and HMRC to ensure claims are optimised and deadlines met.
- Contribute to the development of solutions for complex technical issues and produce marketing or technical content for internal and external use.
- Actively develop and promote the R&D tax offering in the region, identifying opportunities for new work and fee growth.
- Keep up-to-date with changes to R&D tax legislation and best practice, ensuring high technical standards are maintained.
- Extensive knowledge of UK R&D tax relief schemes and claim quantification.
- Proven experience managing multiple R&D tax projects, including for small and large companies.
- Strong leadership and coaching experience, with the ability to supervise, mentor, and develop junior team members.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to translate complex technical concepts into practical advice.
- Commercially aware with a proactive approach to business development.
- ACA/CTA qualified preferred (or equivalent experience in Innovation Taxes).
