We are seeking a dedicated HR Officer to join a supportive and dynamic team within the education sector on a temporary basis until the end of February, with potential for extension. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a school environment where staff development and wellbeing are a priority, and where your work will have a direct impact on the smooth running of the organisation.

Reporting to school leadership and working closely with the central HR team, you’ll manage key HR operations and provide support to staff, ensuring processes run efficiently and in line with policy.

What you’ll do:
  • Manage payroll, recruitment, and HR transactional input, including associated contractual paperwork.
  • Support recruitment processes in collaboration with the central recruitment function.
  • Ensure safeguarding records are up to date and escalate any concerns appropriately.
  • Oversee all stages of the absence process, including return-to-work, welfare, and formal sickness meetings.
  • Support first-line employee relations casework, including grievances, disciplinary matters, and relationship issues.
  • Act as a first point of contact for line managers on HR matters, resolving issues where possible.
  • Assist with HR project work and organisational changes as required.
  • Maintain awareness of safeguarding requirements and participate in safer recruitment processes.
  • Build strong relationships across the organisation, demonstrating resilience and confidence in challenging situations.

What we’re looking for:
  • Proven experience in HR operations, including payroll, recruitment, or employee relations.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and willingness to engage in safer recruitment practices.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to support and challenge managers when needed.
  • Resilient, proactive, and solutions-focused mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
